---------------------------------------------------------------------------- It is hard to believe that a man is telling the truth when you know that you would lie if you were in his place.-" H. L. You know, at times I can't help the feeling that students are a kind of brainless species. But the moment the red curtain of fury unveils my eyes [during the years of practice I've learnt to do it as soon as possible] we talk and their brains prove to be present and sometimes even operative. ; )) <I remember when I was a student... the most important thing that we asked for from a teacher was that the teacher should involve the students.. > That's fundamental. Otherwise you could just as well send assignments by post and receive the answers in the same way, without ever meeting your students. <atleast take some suggestions regarding any decisions that affect the students... > Certainly. Except for some basics that shouldn't be disputable [e.g. attending classes being necessary for the completion of the course]. <as students, we hated teachers who would just walk into class.... Give orders and walk out... > No wonder. I did too. <also another very important quality that we considered in a teacher was the ability to discuss... the students should have the freedom to question what the teacher says...> Very much so. Students are usually unaware of it but teachers learn a lot from them. I have, for sure. How do I know they're unaware? Because when I meet them [i live in a small town and we often meet just in the street] and tell them, when remembering old school days, they are really surprised. < in some way or the other... I'm sure we are all forever students.... > Agree again. In fact teachers must do much more learning, studying, than their students. The student leaves school after four years. The teacher remains there for much longer and has to learn still new things to teach to new students. Although my private idea is that a teacher's task is not really to teach but to show the ways to learn. That's why the teacher's work is fruitless without the students' co-operation.
