Dear Rohit,
The story was very inspiring.
What was your uncle's name?
 ----------------------------------------------
His name was Chandulal Jhaveri (he spelled it that way).
He made very good fortune while trading in textile dyes in Delhi and north
India. Throughout his life he remained an honest tax payer and the charities
he made ran into large sums. From our family trust which he established and
which my brother manages, we do good charity work like organizing eye camps,
out patient clinic for the poor, primary school for the low income children,
sending monthly money orders to the surviving widows of freedom fighters
etc. etc.
My brother who took over my uncle's business in Delhi (since uncle had no
issues) is caarying on the good work as per my uncle's wishes.
All the prime ministers from Nehru to Rajiv Gandhi knew him personally. In
appreciation of his services, once Congress had offered him a ticket to
election to parliament, but he always preferred to serve the cause keeping
away from active politics.
Delhi Gujarati Samaj, Sardar Patel school and Gujarat Vihar society are the
result of his tireless efforts.
Sikander Bakht and my uncle together had done the job of distributing milk
and medicines to the families in Chandani Chowk area of Delhi, during the
curfew time (and often defying the orders to stay indoors) of the days of
severe rioting in the capital soon after independence. Sikander Bakht joined
politics after independence while my uncle took to his business of chemicals
and continued social services. Bakht is absolutely uncorrupted, clean
politician. Former speaker Dhillon was his personal friend. My father too
never even once sought to benefit from my uncle's vast contacts.
As a result of clean conduct in the family, we all brothers and sister have
done exceedingly well in life.

Rohit Zaveri.
