Quicksand rather works fast ! Arabian country side is full of such sand
dunes. I had terrible experience in the middle of the stark desert, some 200
kilometers off Abudhabi. I was then just new here and went all out on the
dune to carry out contour survey. The chainmen and staff holders had not
arrived yet (they had gone to fetch water a little distance away) and I was
all alone. Within half a minute or so the sand started sucking me in. More I
tried to free myself, more I went in. This must have gone on for three to
four minutes, and I was a few inches more than knee deep inside the soil !!
Hearing my cries, the men rushed with wooden planks and with difficulty
saved me from further sinking in.
Quicksand's physical behaviour is that of a fluid, liquid.
Never try to climb a dune when you are alone..........
