---------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you are patient in one moment of anger, you will escape a hundred days of sorrow. - Chinese Proverb ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rawat wrote on Abhigyan Shaakunthalam : Shakuntala is nurtured in the aashram of another sage (name?). #Sage Kanwa# =============== Rawat: Dushyant goes back to run his kingdom and gives Shakuntala a finger ring saying that whenever she comes to his palace, she need to show him this ring so that he would be able to recall about her. (what logic). #The ring was not given as a means of recollection! It was the symbol of their marriage (Gandharva Vivah). They did marry secretly before consumating the marriage. The ring symbolized that. The ring has importance in the story. After Dushyant went back to his palace promising to return to take her to the Palace ceremoneously, Sakuntala sat day-dreaming about him. At that time Sage Durvasa visited the Ashram. The dreaming Sakuntala did not see him. Sage Durvasa cursed her that whoever she is dreaming about will forget her. Sakuntala begged for pardon and the sage relented saying that Dushyant would remember her again when he saw the marriage ring. Dushyant forgot her because of Durvasa's curse and their reunion was delayed because of the lost ring. I know it is not 'logic' but that is the story. =============== Rawat: Shakuntala gets pregnant, and gets expelled from the aashram so that other girls do not take her lead. #She was not expelled from the Ashram. Sage Kanwa sent her to the King's palace but Sakuntala could not prove her credentials because she lost the ring. She returned to the same Ashram and lived there until Dushyant came to get her and her son.
