Re: [nukkad] No Need to Guzzle All That Water

If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything. - Mark Twain

Dear Harish,

What you have forwarded may be a very controversial message.

Drinking sufficient water has always been unquantifiable.
I know many children who are constantly running to drink water; conversely,
many never seem to want water. Both groups are otherwise healthy.
I need to emphasize one thing, though.
As you grow older, the " thirst centre" of the brain becomes less and less
sensitive to an actual increased need for water by the body.
Hence, an older person perceives thirst much later than a child, for
example.
So, the need is for an older person to continue drinking water, EVEN WHEN
HE/SHE DOES NOT FEEL THIRSTY, esp. in the summer, or while working in the
field or while absorbed in work, or reading.
It helps to keep a bottle of water nearby in such circumstances.

Remember how an old man can stay without water much longer than a younger
one?
Jains and Muslims who go on fasts will agree with me.
We often hear of very old Jains who stay without food/ water for long
periods. Same, re. Muslims, where the grandparents are merrily fasting, while
the young men are waiting for the fast to end!

sedentary existence," Valtin said. "Persons with certain diseases must have
large volumes of water -- kidney stones are probably the most common
example."

The rest can just drink enough to slake thirst -- and this includes
coffee, tea,
and even beer -- despite their diuretic effects, Valtin said.
