[nukkad] Burma

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We cannot command nature except by obeying her. -- Francis Bacon
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rawat asked:

Was Burma always culturally and socially different from India?

Did British club it with India for administrative convenience
and
separated it for the same reason?

Why/when was it clubbed with India?
Why was it separated from India?
---------------

And above all, why aren't their cries for merger of Burma and
India,
======================================================================

Burma is culturally different from India. In 9th century, a
part of it fell to the Nanchao kingdom of Southern China. In
mid-eleventh century, King Anawrhata united the whole of Myanmar
into a single kingdom. It was broken by a Mongol invasion in 1287.
Reunification occurred in 16th century. During British India,
Burma annexed Assam. Two Anglo-Burmese wars followed in 1824-26
and 1852, resulting in taking back of Assam and parts of Burma.
After third Anglo-Burmese war in 1885, the whole of Burma fell to
the British.

Till then, it was known as Myanmar. The British called it Burma.
British occupation lasted 1885-1948. Under the British, Burma
became a province of India. In 1937, the British separated Burma
from India. In second world war, it was occupied by the Japanese.
Later, the British reoccupied it till 1948, when it became
independent. It was renamed as Myanmar in 1989.

When i wrote earlier that Burma was never a part of india, i meant
it was never a part of india as we know. Sure, it was a British
colony and till 1937, a part of British India. The very fact that
India became independent in 1947 and Burma in 1948 is sufficient
to show that Burma was not as such a part of India.

So,Rawatji, it is clear that Burma was never a part of India, was
never separated from India, hence, there is no question of
reunification with India.
