It was mentioned in this thread that this hoax (if it is that)
was encouraged by mineral water copanies so that people buy more
water.

I feel puzzled at the understanding of the ground level realities
by the person who got that idea.

In India, even plain, clean drinking water is not available to
people, and people are believing that everybody is drinking
mineral water.

Do we have another marie Antoniette (sp?) in the making?

PS: 

1. my understanding is that drinking more water does make kidneys
process more water, in turn, kidneys get duly flushed and any
accumulating impurities get removed. When a person is facing
kidney stone problem, doctors advise him/ her to drink more and
more water.

2. I believe drinking more water than required is definitely
safer than drinking less water than required.
