[nukkad] why drink?

first the Q.
why would one drink alcohol?
one can understand it as a source of calory in very cold countries.
otherwise?
weakness?
got the habit unable to kick it?
considering it healthy?
think it is harmless?
addicted?
the very distinct feature of alcohol is that it removes
the inhibition one's control over oneself  by suppressing
the higher functions of the brain.
why wld anyone want to voluntarily give up self control?
escapism?
mind you i am not saying now it is wrong or right.
just curious!
