Is there any scientific basis when people say that giving up
smoking is more diffcult than giving up alcohol, or are they
giving excuse.

The practical difficulty might be one angle that cigarette you
can carry anywhere and indulge in, whereas you need some minimum
infrastructure to indulge in alcohol.

I have been smoking for last 20 years. How to assess the damage
it has caused to me? non-destructive testing.
