I have been smoking for last 20 years. How to assess the damage it has
caused to me? non-destructive testing.

non-destructive; it is reconstructive.

i firmly believe in the "as u sow, so shall u reap" funda... but applicable 
over the stretch of one life only... :-)

In this world not everyone gets punished in this life for crimes committed
in this life.

Unless people are told that they will get punished in the next life for the
sins in this life, people will lose faith in the social order. They are
seeing Dawood Ibrahims, Chhota Shakeels, Sukh Rams and their ilk enjoying
luxurious life out of earnings from crime and not getting punished in this
life by man or by God. People's belief that God will punish them in the next
life (or on the day of judgement), helps in sustaining the legal system.

People meekly suffer the injustice heaped on them in this life believing
that it is punishment for sins committed in past life. 

In other words, the ruling elite need this 'tool' to keep the ruled within
the parameters defined by them.
