[nukkad] Rawat and No sports - Taher and drinking - Anna and suicide

people can think. -Edwin Schlossberg, designer (1945- )

Sorry about this being a multiple choice reply..

Rawat spoorts are not neccessarily played on a field. We played numerous
games not recognised by any federation. Amongst those that i can remember
vividly are "lagori-or 7 tiles" then there was "Dubba - I spy" of course
the monsoon brought along the "taar" game and the pigeons "donated"
feathers for better flight of the "taar". What about marbles and its various
permutations - "Raja rani" "koiba" and the top spinning? None of these?

Of course my speed at running was due not to an athletics coach or natural
ability to run, it was all the neighbourhood gardeners who caught us on
their well nursed mango trees!

Of course the younger generation of nukkies will have no idea of houses with
mango trees they were a generation ago. Where now 100 families live in
apartments sometimes there were just 2 or 3 families. The FSI (floor space
Index) I think took over.

Just this morning I was discussing the "repair" of a table tennis ball with
a couple of expats - one Iranian one naturalised Canadian, and an American.
The Can and Amercan cud not understand why we never went out and bought a
new ball! well we just didnt have the money :-) but boy did we have a great
time!

Taher age and gender have no rstrictions on visiting a bar. A discotheque i
might hesitate but thats only because I have no sense of rhythm!

Anna - suicide is painful for those it leaves behind. I have known 2 friends
kill themselves. One was a very close friend and this in my 17th year of
life was the first funeral I attended. He wa seasily the most handsome guy i
had ever seen, a veritable movie star in fact he was often mistaken for
Rajesh Khanna a movie star and a teen idol in those days. A brilliant
badmintoin player he was the champion of the North Western subusrbs in those
days. Broke many a heart until i think his was broken by someone else! I
would not know why he did it but we were saddened by his action.

The second was a colleague but he was unfortunately mentally disturbed and
yes he was a kerlaite! I wonder if there are statistics on mental health in
kerala which woud probably bear out the high rate of suicides. I had a
friend who use dto work for an organisation that provided a helpline for
potential suicides. She used to man the phone at the YMCA, and the
organisation was called Samaritans or something else with "S". Sh e i
showever now married and i am not sure where she is or i could have asked
her for her input on teh psychology of suicides.

Regards

Ravi
