---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Many live in the ivory tower called reality; they never venture on the open sea of thought. -Francois Gautier, journalist (1950- ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Maheshji: It seems fair to explain to Anna and other non-Hindi friends what is dhaai and why it came to be in this poem. Dhaai means 2 and a 1/2. The Hindi word for love is Prem, which , when written in Hindi has 2 and a 1/2 letters. Hence the use of dhaai in the couplet. -Taher Kagalwala(drtaher@rolta.net) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mahesh chandra gupta" To: Sent: Thursday, August 15, 2002 7:01 PM Subject: [nukkad] clarification Pothi parh parh jag mua, Pandit bhaya na koi; Dhai acchar prem ka, Parhe so pandit hoi.< "Volumes we read day in, day out, Yet I say without a doubt; He who has understood letters half and two, Is the most erudite man I know." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ To unsubscribe, use the form at: http://www.mumbai-central.com/nukkad/#options This list is archived at: http://www.mumbai-central.com/nukkad/archive.html
