Deepak bhai,

I could not find any details of the TRV648 model. The Sony website
lists three Hi8 models: TRV 108, TRV 308 and TRV 608.

(from the bestbuy.com website)

==== begin
There are three basic ways to get video footage into your PC. One
is to hook up your camcorder to a video capture card that you can
buy and install into your PC's PCI slot. Two, you could transfer
footage by connecting your camcorder to an external video editing
device plugged into your PC's USB or parallel port. Three, if you
have a digital camcorder, you can directly connect your camcorder to
a IEEE 1394 port on your PC. Many new computers come with these ports.
If your computer does not have an IEEE 1394 port, you could install one.
==== end

If you have a Hi8 camera, you have the first two options.

Note that Hi8 is not really a digital format. Sony has created
the Digital8 format that uses the same tapes as Hi8 but records
in digital. As far as I know, only Sony makes Digital8 camcorders.

MiniDV is the most pervasive digital format for camcorders. However,
MiniDV camera are still quite expensive when compared to 8mm and
Hi8 cameras.

As for cheaper cameras in the market, it will depend very much on
your location. What's cheaper in the US may not be available in
India and vice versa. Ask your dealer if he has any other models
with similar functionality. Note that Sony devices are generally
priced at a premium due to the Sony brand. You may be able to find
a Sharp or a Samsung camcorder with identical (or more) functionality
at a cheaper price.
