[nukkad] Nicknames & suicide

Well, looking at the subject line dont get the impression somebody committed suicide because of his nickname. (that was a p.j.)

Nicknames reminded me that you get most of these in your college days.
I was called IDI (due to surname Amin), Tullya (due to my language Tulu)to name a few. A Kolhapuri becomes "Ghats", a Patil becomes "Pats", a sikh becomes "surdy", a jhaveri became "Jhavya", a Dalal became "Dolly". 

Coming to the more serious matter of suicides, there's an organisation named "Samaritans" who have a helpline for people with suicidal tendencies. People can walk in for counselling with professionals  or telephone lines are available to lend a ear to their woes. This is a voluntary organisation based in Byculla & volunteers handle the calls. My sister used to be a volunteer & that's how I came to know about this. 
The point I am trying to make is the lack of awareness of availability of such helplines. For depressed people with suicidal tendencies, someone to listen to them vent out their fears & feelings without passing judgement is the prime need. (my perception at least)
Such helplines prove to be the only lifelines sometimes.
