---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "All great deeds and all great thoughts have a ridiculous beginning." - Albert Camus ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rawat about his wife and the net: > Only that she hates net due to my indulgence in it. For that > matter, she finds my indulgence in alcohol more acceptable than > in net. > > Oh women!< Oh men! So many of you [it's general, not personal] fail to see the point that women's aim in marriage is not to criticize or approve of this or that indulgence of their husbands, but to indulge in something together. Irrespective of the culture. Just a thought. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... and on personal questions: > Indian are known for spontaneity, and for asking dumb questions. > They are mostly intelliget to think up questions and are not able > to keep their curiosity contained.< Are they equally spontaneous when answering as they are when asking? And how about keeping secrets? Extremely spontaneous people are sometimes not capable of it. >That brings cases of "foot in > the mouth".~< This brings assocciation with foot-and-mouth which is a cattle disease. But it's not what you meant, I believe. : ) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... then on the 'say' vs 'do' people: >In India there are consequences of extra-marital affairs and divorce. In west, I understand from books and movies, it is every family affair.< Books and films are usually made to satisfy the readers' and viewers' need for sensational plots rather than to give the objective picture of social and family life [which recently refers to a large number of documentaries too, I'm afraid]. The phenomenon has become more frequent, but I still wouldn't say it's 'every family affair'. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ... next, on teaching: >One can provide whatever external input, but the student has to be ready to accept that input and process it.< Very much true. No matter which subject is being studied That should clear the basic misunderstanding of the role of a teacher. It is not to FEED information IN the student's brain, the latter being passive. It is to HELP him UNDERSTAND difficult points and to HELP him LEARN how to GATHER further information and BUILD UP his knowledge in order to USE it. That's what I've been trying to explain to my students and their parents since when I learnt it myself [which was not at the university but after I started teaching]. I am not always successful, I'm afraid.
