There is no need to get confused. When in doubt, ask your conscience and act accordingly. If the dilemma still persists, take the help of standard reference points or reference standards. Law is such a standard, [though country specific, and alterable with time and situation, and, sometimes, open to contested interpretation].  Answer to your paradox may be found in law as follows. If you are a US citizen, you are bound to side with US in war with India. If you are merely a green card holder, you continue to be an Indian. As long as you do not actively work against the interests of the host country, you may not be chargeable under any law for merely having your sympathies with India.

The case of Indian muslims is different. They are Indian citizens and are bound by law to act in interest of India.
