This is the first message that addresses the real problem that ails both the 
dowry giver and taker.

But what is the education that is required? It is an education in social and 
moral values. No amount of bookish reading and values will get u there.

To many "friends" who told me that they were to demand such and such amounts 
in dowry my reply and any who know me would realise how wry and or direct i 
can be/was,

"So how much of u in made of 24 carat gold that u sell yourself for?"

Needless to say I do not have any of these "friends" anymore.

As to the many ladies keeping quiet on the issue i think i can feel for them 
too. thereare issues that can hurt so badly that it is dificult to become 
vocal about them.

If we as men, fathers or potential grooms  are led to believe that we are 
the so called "stronger" sex in  Indian society, then it is we who need to 
assess and fight the evil or we might as well give up the myth of being 
strong.

Nair society was essentially a matriarchal society wher the man married the 
woman and lived in her house thereby eliminating the need for a dowry. 
However many families now claim the importance of the family when they 
demand large amounts in dowry selling as they were their honour.

Unfortunately i do not see much difference between them and the practioners 
of the worlds oldest profession.
