Today's Sunday Mid Day has an interesting column on Rape by Vir Sanghvi.

He says very clearly that the emphasis should be on the humane treatment of
the victim. I searched www.mid-day.com/smd, but did not get this column
there, so I am unable to c/c/p it here.
I am typing here his final comment:
