[nukkad] Search in Muslim Mind

There are moments when art attains almost to the dignity
of manual labour. -- Oscar Wilde (1856-1900)

The following I received from another mail list which contains revealing
information.

Subject: [IndianCivilization] Search in Muslim Mind

The following information is from the Marathi book, "Muslim manaacaa
shodha" authored by Shes'arao More (Marathi name). Page598. "After
victory when prophet came to Macca, he refused to enter Kaabaa because
inside were Statues of Hubal and of others. Inside were pictures of
Ibrahim (Abraham) and Ismail having arrows in the hands telling future
(BaaNas telling Bhavishya?)". Next page 77, "The ancestor of the prophet
by the name Abara Bin Luhaya first brought statues from Syria to Macca
and established in Kaabaa." Page 98-99 "Prophet said that Al Lat, Al
Manat and Al Uzza were exalted ladies of the history-daughters of the
GOD. After this utterance by the Prophet Qureish Arabs were delighted
because the Prophet at least praised some of their statues. But then scene
was changed with the intervention of Gibrile (Gabriel). New verses were
given in
place of old one saying those three goddesses were only names given by
ancestors of Arabs and they have no real value. New verses were called
authentic and the old ones praising Lat, Uzza and Manat were declared as
Satanic verses." This subject is strongly debated among Muslim scholars.
My comments-There is much to learn for Indian Scholars and Indian
Universities from the example of Oxford University in England which has
Islamic center funded by millions of dollars, which has Hare Krishna
center funded by millions of dollars, which has Matsya project again
funded by somebody, and GOI gave 13 crores of ruppes to establish the
chair of Indian studies. On the other hand in India riots are funded,
mosques are funded, temples are funded, churches are funded, stupas are
funded. Should not there be a change in thinking after looking at the
examples of others?
One more my comment-Germans have published the picture of the statues of
three ancient goddesses of Arabia from Hatra-Two of them on the left and
right sides have saries, bangles, neclklaces and earings. The middle one
is difficult to recognize whether it is a man or a lady. Statues of
pre-islamic king Sanatruq and his daughter Princess Vftaari were also
published. Research needs money but Indians got the habit of wanting
everything "Fukkata" (free). No wonder there is exodus of scholars from
India to this day to the western countries. Thanks. N.R. Joshi
