Rhett Butler is the male lead in the book and the subsequent movie 
'Gone With The Wind'. The movie is a Hollywood classic. 

One of the most famous scenes in the movie has the herione, Scarlett 
O'Hara, distraught at the thought of Butler leaving her.

The dialog is:

Scarlett O'Hara: Rhett... If you go ... where shall I go? What shall I do? 
Rhett Butler: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. 

This is the basis for the Rhett Butler variation of the 'if you love
someone....' lines.
