The actual line by Rhett to Scarlett was:
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn."

Margaret Mitchell's "Gone with the wind"... an all time classic !!!
The first time I read the novel (an abridged version)... I was
in high school (a literature "project")... I really did
not "understand" it.
Then a couple of years later... I watched the movie. That helped :-)
Later as an undergrad... I read the book again (the book was a
birthday gift from Mom). And this time... I fell in love with the
book.
Today... I own the unabridged version of the book... as well as the
movie. And depending on my mood, I either... watch the movie or read
the book (and I have my favorite excerpts :-) ).
Scarlett O'Hara... a complex character. Throughout her life... she
chased Ashley... the weakling who never really cared for her. But
for her... he was the symbol of that fantasy world... the harsh and
opportunistic New South.
Life deals her a few blows and Scarlett "matures"... and she changes...
from a rude teenager... to a hard-working widow... but always the
opportunist. Her ultimate decision to return to Tara... her beloved
home... brings the story full-circle and brings Scarlett back to her
roots. She accepts the New South... but she also becomes aware of her
bond to the land and to her old culture.
A great novel... definitely a must read !!!
The movie is also well-made... the story is the same as the novel
(no Hollywood distortions !!)...
Vivien Leigh is a very good actress.
Her role as the strong spirited, coquettishly confused, manipulative
Scarlett O'Hara was great. In the end... one feels sorry for her...
she had everything... yet... she had nothing. I guess... that is what
happens when we do not know what we want. :-(
But she did a great job portraying Mitchell's character...
...Katie... Scarlett O'Hara.
I also loved Leigh in 'A StreetCar Named Desire'.
(Co-star : Marlon Brando)
Her role as the pseudo-aristocratic, weak, emotionally-dependent
on men... sister-in-law, Blanche DuBois was superb !!
The roles, Scarlett and Blanche... were so different... but Leigh
played them with such ease !!
And such tragedies... both the movies... tearjerkers... :-(
Intriguing! ... but we humans love tragedies. Almost always...
movies or novels which have a tragic ending become very popular.
Why do we humans immortalise tragedy ???
