Islamic calendar is lunar and their year is of 355 days. Thus every year Eid comes 10 days ahead of previous year. Next year Ramazan Eid will be on 23 rd November (it may differ by one day). Hi Rohit ji, :) It seems that being busy in counting your millions you have forgotten counting small figures. This year Eid is on 6th so next year it has to be 10 days earlier, that is 26th nov. I checked the calendar and it is so. In case of leap year (next year is NOT), it gets shifted accordingly. --------------- Anna, The month of ramjaan concludes on the day when new moon is sighted. But it is physical sighting by a huamn being. Thus, in case of clouds being there, the moon which is very much there may not visible to him. In that case, Eid is not declared the next day. It is assumed that moon will get sighted anyway the next day and thus the Eid gets celebrated after the next day, thus it gets shifted by one day. I think it is sighting of the moon by the religion authorities or respectable persons of a specific country. thus, they do not declare eid even if moon has got sighted in some other country. Also, they do not take help of aeroplane by flying above clouds so that moon will become visible anyway. (Don't ask about satellites, to whom moon is always visible). ------------- There is an idiom: "eid kaa chaand ho gaye" (you have become moon of eid). As moon of eid is visible once a year, the idiom refers to a person whom you meet after a long along time. -------------------- AND THE BUMPER: Sighting of moon by female is discounted. Only males should report that they have seen it. Eid is not eclared if females see the moon. This is inline with general treatment of females in Islaam.
