Re: [nukkad] road not taken - The Fear Of Failure

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.
-Margaret Fuller, author (1810-1850)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adheer posted Frost's poem...
======================================================================
Two roads diverged in a wood and I,
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.
                          -Robert Frost
======================================================================
Frost took the less travelled road... and that is why... even today
we read his poems. Yes... he was brave, he was ready to face life's
challenges... he was not afraid of failure.

Failure... a seven letter word... a word, we mortals... fear to hear.

Sometimes failure can wound us so profoundly that it penetrates
deep into our psyche... and may even become an integral part of
who we believe we are. Yes, all of us fail... in all things... big
and small. I know... I have... and I have been thoroughly haunted
by my own mistakes, miscalculations and self-judgements... again
and yet again.

Ordinary failures in school, work... are an inevitable part of our
day-to-day life. Somebody once said that... "failure is the descent
of the spirit into human limitation." Of course this does not mean
that we should try to fail... or take some sort of masochistic
pleasure in making mistakes. Instead it means that we should be able
to accept our shortcomings as a part of who we are... whenever we
do not measure up to our expectations.

In other words... we need to be able to "incorporate" failure into
our day-to-day lives so that it doesn't devastate us... :-)

Jungian psychology reminds us that -
Failure or defeat is not the theme of human life stories... it
is not what defines who we are... where we will go or who we will
become. It only reminds us that we are not alone. That we share
the legacy of all human-kind... that ...
-- we will all fail from time to time --.
Failure... is a natural offshoot of growth. We churn in it... learn
from it... and we become stronger as we struggle to recover from it.

Thanks and have a great weekend,
-Sam.
