When I was buying my first car, I came across a Karmann Ghia. I 
had no clue what it was and why it was special. The owner was very 
attached to it and had a very loving description of it in his
'for sale' ad. I asked a European friend of mine if he knew
anything about this car (the price was just right, I later found
out why) but he had no idea. That was odd and I tried to find
more information on the make. 

The owner confirmed my suspicion when he said that it was a car 
lover's car. And that I would enjoy it 'working on it'. I was
only looking for something that took me from point A to point B.
I didn't care about its internal beauty or its place in the
automative pantheon. I told the owner that a car that needed ongoing 
tender and loving care was not the right one for me.  I think he 
was somewhat happy that I did not buy his car.
