Ek BooNd (A Raindrop)

jyoN baadloN ki god se
thii abhii ek booNd kuchh aage baDi
sochne phir-phir yahii jii meiN lagii
aah! kyoN ghar chhoD kar maiN yooN kaDii 
(As a raindrop left the clouds, it started to think,
"why did I leave (the comfort of) home?...") 

dev! mere bhagya meiN kayaa badaa
maiN bachooNgii ya milooNgii dhool meiN
ya jalooNgii gir aNgaare par kisii
choo paDoogiiN ya kamal ke phool meiN 

(O God! what is in my fate?..will I fall on a heap of
dust(and become mud?)..
or will I fall on an amber and get burned?..or will I
land on a (beautiful) lotus flower?) 

bah gayii us kaal ek aisii hawaa
veh samunder oar aayii anmanii
ek sunder siip ka moohN thaa khulaa
vah usii meiN jaa paDii moti banii 

(A gust of air forced her towards the ocean
she fell into the open mouth of an oyster and became a
pearl) 

log yooN hii haiN jhijhakte, sochte
jab ki unko chhoDnaa paDta hai ghar
kintoo ghar ko chhoDnaa aksar unheN
booNd loN kucch aur hii detaa hai kar 

(Similarly people often hesitate to leave home
but as it happened to the raindrop, leaving home often
turns out to be good for them)
