---------------------------------------------------------------------------- How to Write Effective Mailing List Email http://www.digital-web.com/tutorials/tutorial_1999-12.shtml ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- MATHEMATICS TODAY JULY 2002 6 Dungra Ram Chowdhary, son of an uneducated farmer of Mundawa, a remote village in Jalore district, Rajasthan, is the topper of IIT-JEE 2002. This was his second attempt for IIT-JEE. In an exclusive interview to MTG, Dungra Ram confided that though hopeful to get through, he never thought of securing the top position. Though a Hindi medium student of Govt. Sr. Secondary School, Jalore, he secured 93 rd position in JEE screening 2002. He has proved that strong determination coupled with devotion and hardwork can bear the fruit. Born to Shri Ajaram Chowdhary, a farmer by profession, Dungra Ram and his brother attended the village school which was only upto 5th class at that time, Thereafter they did their schooling till 10th from Menglava and Jeevana village schools, respectively. For Senior Secondary they had to go to Jalore, too far from his native village. Dungra Ram chose Maths as his prime subject and obtained 100% marks in both Secondary and Senior Secondary levels. He recollects that, on an average, he was studying 10 to 12 hours per day. In IIT entrance as well, Dungra Ram scored 100% marks in Maths. However, he feels sorry that he could not attempt one question of 5 marks in Electrostatics. Shri Ajaram Chowdhary told MTG that the village environment is not conducive for proper education. In comparison to his sons the other children are not too enthusiastic for studies. Children do not get much encouragement from their parents either. In spite of this he is striving hard to get his brilliant children educated. Though his income from agriculture is not sufficient to send his sons to Engineering and Medical College, he is still hopeful to pursue his desire. Coming from a remote village, Dungra Ram was not aware about the various resources available to help fulfil his ambition. It was through newspapers, that he came to know about the coaching institutes and their role in guiding students for entrance exams. Initially he joined Career Point, Kota and got selected for R-PET in 2001. After that he joined Bansal Classes, Kota, for coaching of IIT entrance exam 2002. He stated that though he was a Hindi medium student, he did not face any problem in taking lessons in English at Bansal™s. He emphasizes that if one does not understand the concept, it is better to approach the teacher concerned and get the doubts clarified. This year Darga Ram, his elder brother, coached from Allen Institute, Kota, has also been selected for CPMT 2002. In future Dungra Ram plans on taking the ICS exams after completing his B.Tech at IIT. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
