[nukkad] Dr MCG and Pappoos on the state/status of women

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
God could not be everywhere, and therefore he created mothers.
-Jewish proverb
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who on the list has called…

Well Dr Saab, I really don’t remember essentially because I think there are
better things in this life but I am certain it has happened more than once.
The next time it does I shall most certainly point it out to you.

And it certainly wasn’t a person pointing out deficiencies mind you.

<<You are mixing up issues>> Am I? I was not responding to the mail and
not replying as in contradicting or confirming. It was a totally different
view that I was taking from a broader perspective of women in our country. I
also pointed out that we (read Indian's) ill-treat our women. That the
practices I mention are not widespread does not mean that they are
pardonable or that we as a society are not responsible to try and change
them if we can. As to practices in other religions I think that that is a
problem that those who practice that religion should address. Is your
religion so free of fault so clear and so without blemish that you can cast
that first stone? Or do u have such a clear understanding of another mans
religion that you can criticize it?

More than anything else IMHO anybody who seeks to use religious teachings
scriptures or laws to mete out any kind of treatment just or otherwise to a
lady is a coward. I think the best judgement is ones conscience.

Now if I may ask you a question to you sir is simply this. And I am not
being facetious nor am I being sarcastic, I ask because I am truly ignorant.
Does the Hindu religion define how we treat our women? Do we have laws that
define property rights etc?

Mr Pappoos I think the person who missed the point was you. As I explained I
really could not care what religion a woman belongs to. I was but lamenting
the state and status of women in the country, sanctioned by religion society
or your conscience.

Ravi
