"Disbeliever" in Quran means atheist [not just non-muslim] and "Allah"
simply means the one and only God.

While your sincerity in finding out the truth is commendable , I have to add
that translations have their limitations. The Quranic language of Arabic is
quite different from the modern day Arabic language. Also the overall
context. A sentence by sentence evaluation frequently lead to wrong
conclusions. It must be viewed in its totality. Perhaps we should leave this
to our learned  theologians .


At least I can speak for myself :

>From where I live  [Kerala , with almost 100% literacy ] I have not
witnessed any atrocity committed on women  because of religion .
Proper education makes people saner , irrespective of religion. Lack of it
creates all sorts of problems. I do hope the present communal "tidal wave"
would not contaminate , even the literates.

As for conversion to other faiths , Islam or any other faith would not
approve of this.  Religion aim to take followers closer to God.  Perhaps the
"route" suggested may be
different. It is more like different modes of transport to reach the same
destination. Each person generally tends to boast his/her own mode to be
better , even if it is just to feel comfortable or out of more familiarity
with that particular mode !

But then "religion" is a matter of faith ; not of science , although science
may agree with religion at higher levels.
