Hi...actually I was wondering when all this talk about
muslim women was going on...whether any one would
raise the issue about Hindu women....there are no
written laws for Hindu society but that should not be
used as means to escape introspection..in fact it
needs more thought as to why a society which was free
to choose it's way descended to such practices

-the hindu society is a society where the rich use
ultra scans to kill female foetus...Dr. Gupta being a
Dr. must have come across that...
-where a bride is not supposed to have an opinion of
her own even in so called educated families
-where women are not safe to travel/go out alone to
live alone....i have seen hoodlooms coming and
threatening women who were living alone....
-dowry deaths are increasing
-status of lower caste women is supposed to be worse
-I have seen young widows in educated families
mistreated and thrown out of houses by their in laws

I feel women's status in Indian society is
disgustingly low and it could not have been with out
sanctions from religious authorities...women were not
allowed to be priests ....they were not allowed to
have educations....in many places they were burnt
alive with their dead husbands.....it still goes on
and I have never seen the VHP types mouthing concerns
about these issues.
