In Kerala, christians account for 22 %, Muslims 20 %. This leaves 58 %. Of these 2/3 rd are communists. Hence only 19 % unaffected people i.e. Hindus are left. Any place on this planet where Hindus are reduced to a fifth, there has to be 'peace ', a hypocratic compromise with injustice and indignation. #According to you, it is all a game of numbers, is it? If you are in majority, harass the minority; if you are in minority, be harassed. Peaceful co-existence is a possibility you never thought of. Social relationships are not governed by numerical strength, but by culture and educational level of the people. Your numerical analysis of Kerala is faulty. Even as per your own analysis Hindus & Muslims are almost on par 20% & 20%. It is even and shouldn't make Hindus submissive on the basis of numerical strength. And your comparison of Kerala situation to UAE is far fetched, to say the least. We are talking about Indians in Secular India not about fortune hunters in theocratic states. Communists are not without religion. Most of them are devout Hindus. Many Muslims and Christians are communists. How else do you account for Communists coming to power every 5 years? Not possible with only 38% Hindu votes in their favour if 20% Muslim, 22% Chriristian and 20% Hindu votes are against them. (Indian Communists are not 'communists'; it is only a name of the Party not indicative of the Party's practiced ideology). But Communists did have a vital role in harmonising the population. During the 40s and 50s, communists did bring economically weaker sections together, cutting across the religious / caste barrier. Literacy levels of Kerala Muslims are at par with those of Hindus & Christians. Most people read newspapers and are politically aware. Even Beedi rolling workers have someone to read them the newspapers aloud daily while they roll Beedis and discussions ensue. In such an environment, communal issues do not sway them as much as they do in other places. ========================== Rohit's Point No. 2: Aren't you aware you are rated second class in your own home state ? Thanks for telling me. I get to learn new things. During my next trip home, I will try to find out if any ordinary citizens are rated first class in India. So far my experience in India had tought me that only top politicians are rated first class in India. Citizens are normally rated second or lower. If numerical strength of religion is a factor in determining status of a citizen, how will you rate the status of Gujrati Muslims? 3rd Class? ======================== Rohit's point No. 3: We very much know that if our strength falls to the miserable level of 19 % in our Gujarat/Maharashtra, there will be peace for in such a case aHindu reduces to null and void. Fortunately we have managed to keep 90 % intact in our states and thus our case is different from Kerala which faces destruction of Hindus. That is the problem with social relationships based on numerical strength. The tables get turned the moment the numbers are reversed. There has to be a more durable basis for social interaction. I think Kerala has found it. It has its Abdulnasser Madanis and Padmanabhans trying to upset the equilibrium but so far majority of Keralites have ignored them. ================ Rohit's Point No. 4: You have no choice but to make such weak and submissive talk. If I don't have a choice, what can I say. Anything I say would be construed as weak and submissive talk. Poor Me.
