Re : [nukkad] Rohits Mathematics

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I wish our clever young poets would remember my homely definitions of
prose and poetry; that is, prose, - words in their best order; poetry, - the
best words in their best order. -Samuel Taylor Coleridge, poet (1772-1834)
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I missed the original post "Rohit's mathematics" (whose?)- must have been in
Digest 655. In digest 656 Rohit responded with the following comments:

Rohit: They are neither capable of becoming proper communists nor capable of
staying intact Hindus. They are hanging in the middle. That's why they have
to go all the way to wretched Bihar to find work. Yours is a case of " dono
ke bich barabar loodak gaya." (hanging between the two sides, belonging to
neither wholly).

# Rohit's reasons for branding Kerala Hindus as not being 'intact' is not
clear. Why should one have to choose between Hinduism and Communism?
According to Guptaji ( and I agree with him), Hinduism is capable of
treating even atheists as Hindus. So where is the question of hanging
between the two? All communists can be Hindus, but all Hindus need not be
communists.
===============================================================
Rohit: Only foolish Hindus in Kerala are mesmerized by worthless communism,
something that flopped in its own territory. Among Muslims not even 2% and
among Christians not even 5% have taken to whatever kind of communism. Thus
2/3 out of chiefly Hindu lot is often weak to win elections, as suggested by
you.

# If 98% of Muslims, 95% of Christians and 33.3% of Hindus are against
communists, Communist Party can never win an election in Kerala. Truth is,
people vote cutting across religious and party lines to express displeasure
of the Government of the day. Anti-incumbency factor has been strong in
Kerala in every election except one.

Keralites are not mesmerized by Communism. In the evolutionary process of
1940s & 50s, Communists dreamt of building an egalitarian society in Kerala
and organized the economically weaker sections. Their efforts made the lower
strata of society aware of their rights and that made a huge difference in
the social development of Kerala. Soon the Party realized the impracticality
of a Russian-type communist revolution in India and practically ditched
communism in mid-fifties, long before Russia did. I am alluding to their
readiness to contest elections within the constitutional framework of India
fully knowing that Indian Constitution will not allow a communist type of
revolution. While they continued their verbal tributes to Marxism to keep
their vote banks alive, in practice they are like any other political party
in India, the name notwithstanding. They are as opportunistic as BJP and
Congress.
===================================================================
Rohit: There is frequent trouble in Mallapuram, Kannanore, Kasarkode and
Kozhicode
districts. Either it is between Marxists & BJP or BJP & Congress, or Muslim
league & RSS.

Barring the Nadapuram incident, none of the troubles were communal in
nature. And Nadapuram incident was a localized problem and did not spread
even to neighbouring localities. That is the insular value of close social
interaction between people belonging to different communities. The fights
between Marxists, BJP & Congress are not inter-religious but are results of
criminalization of politics. It happens in Kerala too.
====================
Rohit: If there is perfect harmony as claimed by you, can you tell us why
communal
parties like Muslim league, Kerala Congress (Christian) and RSS exist ? And
how come they enter into election fray ?

If any of these parties contest an election independently, outside the
coalitions, they will be humiliated. Barring Muslim League in Malappuram
District. Even Muslim League will have to be content with 4-5 seats in the
Assembly. In coalition politics they get the votes of the partnering parties
- sort of pooling of resources. If COM and Congress form a coalition
excluding these communal parties, these splinter groups will dissolve itself
within 10 years, because they can never get the power to give away favours
to retain their base.
==========================

Rohit: Several times I have noticed that you are misguiding Nukkad with
incomplete,
twisted information.

I don't know to whom this remark is addressed to.
========================
Your people do not have leadership qualities like Togadia and hence you
can't produce them.
# Leadership qualities of Togadia!! We are better off without that!
================
In the past when there was no talk of Hindutva, you could not give the
nation the likes of Gandhiji, Patel and Morarji.

# Yes, Gujarat had produced Gandhiji, Patel and Morarji in the past. Now it
is producing 'leaders' like Togadia. When boasting of the great leaders
Gujarat had produced, you should be able to tell us how many Gujarati's
follow the ideals of those leaders these days.
======================
Rohit: Your veins run tap water and that precisely is the reason. Even if
and when you
will be reduced to 1% Hindus, you will not produce strong leaders, because
of tap water.

#I can understand your frustration that 'Leaders' like Togadia have no
following in Kerala.
=================================================================
Rohit : If second class status is too much for you, I can downgrade your
Kerala
Hindu lot to third class. But under the prevailing circumstances I can't
promote you to first class !

# Thank you, Rohit! These third rate Hindus in Kerala will never learn to
respect the Togadias. Better downgrade them to fourth class.
==================
Rohit: It can only happen in your state that with only 7 members of Muslim
league
in the assembly, they can wrest from you three berths in the cabinet of
ministers. Again the chief reason is the quality of tap water.

# Get your facts right. Muslim League has 16 members out of 99 seats won by
the UDF in 2001 in the Assembly of 140. There are 4 Muslim League Ministers
in 20 member cabinet. They are entitled to 3.25 Ministers but since you
can't give a fraction, and since they are the second largest party in UDF,
Antony gave them 4. Not an undue representation in the cabinet by any
yardstick. Even a 2 member party has one Minister. That is coalition
politics for you. If Muslim League contests on its own it may win 4-5 seats
and no ministership. You have seen how a two bit party like George
Fernandes' party have been able to wrest two important portfolios from
Vajpayee. I am sure there are some Ministers of State and Deputy Ministers
from that Party. Does Vajpayee also suffer from the Keralite's tap-water
syndrome?
=================================================================
Rohit: Its not fear psychosis. Its just the quality and mentality of people.
Muslims are taking to violence even at those places where they are only 2%
(USA for eg.)

# Taking to violence indicates quality of people? Yeah, it does though
negatively. You surprised me there with that apparent appreciation of
negative traits, Rohit!
