I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

MANU'S MENACE

A Tragedy Enacted by of Four Witches

[2001 BC

Bharathaharatha, a land extending from the high Damavands and Al Burz of
present day Fars in the East to the Brahamaputhra Waters in the West.

King Athorvahishtra Anghremainyusha, Lord of all Kingdoms from Meso Potam
plateau to the sea, sleeps fitfully in his chambers, guarded by Spentan
Generals, the recent conquest of Hind heavy on his hands, and the need to
subjugate the mothers of the Children of the Earth, the Bhumi Balaka,
forever, for it is known that when Hind Women rise, all else falls before
their wrath.

Manu, an elderly balding fawning priest swathed in white, is bent over a
scroll on which he writes in golden cipher by candlelight, in a large
Spartan anteroom to the King's Chamber.

He croons to himself, hugs himself and is enamored of his own wit, for what
he writes, he knows, will subjugate the Lion Mothers of Hind forever.

The Law, as he writes it, will in time be known as Lord Manu's Codex, will
not just degrade women, it will perpetuate this trend for all times to come,
so that they shall be worse off then Shudras.

Four Hags in the shadows, obvious servitors and kept demons of this crafter
of the Code.

All bear semblance to latter day Dayans, with straggly hair, blood stained
lips, thin and bent, in brown rags, their slivers of breasts swinging as
they dance and croon by a maddened melody].

First Witch: I am Awwali. I will cause the Law to be instilled into a girl
child that she is second best to the son, who is everyone's darling.

Second Witch: I am Duju. I will cause her to be married off in the meat
market to the highest bidder, the slave money termed dowry. Here the
second-best scenario shall be perpetuated with the husband, mummy's darling,
replacing the brother.

Third Witch: I am Triya. When she begets a son, I will cause her to be too
far gone to realize the trickery, and make her continue in the same pattern
without breaking a stride, and kiss-lick the son to perdition. If she gets a
daughter, I will cause her to be quickly cast into the old mode she vacated
some three decades ago.

Fourth Witch: I am Chauthi. When the son begets a slave wife by dowry money,
I will cause him to bring her in as a kept woman, subjugated by the Saas
Mother.

Manu [laughing silently in a hideous manner, and dancing a mad dance by the
flares in the cold chamber, now cavorting with one hag, now with the other]:
I am done! The King, the greater fool he, will sign and seal the Law, and it
shall be part of the Rig Veda, and shall poison the wisdom of the great
Rishis, forever and ever .....

[Now he swings low, and preens high, and the hags follows suit, and pace and
shuffle on the cold floor of the vast chamber, with huge curtained windows
opening on to the conquered land of Hind below, in a green green valley]
.....

And Hind's Mothers will be my SLAVES SLAVES SLAVES, forever and a day.

[The sun gleams in the East across the valley. There is movement and great
Generals in full armor enter, glance around, and bow, making room for the
King].

King Athorvahishtra Anghremainyusha: Punditji, is it done? O Guruji, hast
thou written well?

Manu [fawning, slinking}: Yes O Holy One. As Thou had commanded, my hand has
done the Deed.

[Manu presents the Scroll. The King reads it, avidly intent. The Generals
stand as stone in the far corners of the great hall. The Witches cower,
stilled before the royal presence].

King: Thou hast done well. I appoint thou the First of the Brahamana, High
Born, of ivory skin and bright eyes, Keepers of the Law, Lords and Masters
of all jatis, striyas, purushs for centuries to come, with Shudras for your
oxen and cattle].

[The King motions and a slave comes forth with silken sacks of gold coins,
neck lets studded with rubies, a bevy of Hind girls following].

[Manu grabs the treasure, and sets pace for generations of priests to come.

In his avarice, he does not notice the slight gesture of the King, and the
silent movement of the great General Baharamsipahasalar, with the huge sword
in his hand.

Just as the sun breaks into the hall, the blade swings in a fierce arc and
lands on the frail neck and sends the head flying, to hit the wall, bounce
back and land at the brink of the treasure. The body grotesquely stands for
long moments, and then settles into a heap.

The Witches leap up in the air with a fierce screech and land upon the body,
snarling as they tear it limb from limb, devouring Manu's flesh. At last
they lick the gore and blood off the marbled floor. They then sit, engorged
and foolish, back to back, and await the call of the King, now their new
Master].

King [to himself as much as to anyone]: Manu shall rule all, except the
Kshatriya.

[Then leaping upon the floor from his seat with a great yell, he shouts
again, till the Witches and the Generals cower]:

EXCEPT THE KSHATRIYAAAAA!

[The Witches who have fled to the far shadows, now smile, and begin their
silent dance all over again, this time in chorus}:

Aiee Yaieee Yeee!

[Breaking into the secret Chant of the Witches] Umba hala saba suraAAAA!

We be the Witches Four, and have our Eaten Master within. We be the
Servitors of the ruling class.

But bear thee thisssss [in fierce whisper the King and the Generals do not
hear], thou too have Daughters, heee hee haaaaaa!!

Exeunt.
