Re: Pollution

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip of the day: Re-use your plastic bags.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Myjo and Indira,

Your sentiments reflect the very same fears that persist in any place made
up of immigrants. Reflect on what has shaped the place and made it great.
Would Bombay be as great were it not for the Parsis (easily the biggest
contributors to the city's greatness), the Gujaratis, the South Indians
(including all four states)? Almost definitely not. I would be remiss in
not mentioning the UP immigrants (bhayyas as they are called in Bombay), and
last but not least, the Maharashtrians that were not from Bombay.

In an odd way, your fears are exactly those expressed by Pat Buchanan,
erstwhile Presidential hopeful from the 'Reform Party' in the US. He, too,
was concerned with the growing levels of immigration and the loss of jobs to
Americans. If only he had looked back at where he came from - and what he
did to the locals, he would bite his tongue and stop the ranting and raving.

Mankind would not be where it is today were it not for migration. Migration
is the reason for cross-pollination. Get over this xenophobia. Were it not
for migration, mankind would still be living in Africa - and the remaining
continents would remain unexplored.

Indian (a Bombayite - that does not want to be xenophobic)
