RE: [nukkad] Immigrants.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tip of the day: Pepperoni is not pepper. It is meat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

North East India has the problem of trans-national illegal immigration.
(against Mumbai's intra-national legal immigration.) They tried their best
with government support to send back the immigrants but did not succeed.
Because the national and international law awards citizenship by birth. So
the present generation is legally not an immigrant.

I remember a question in a geography question paper. 'Describe the loss to
India because Karachi went to Pakistan and describe the loss to Pakistan
because Calcutta went to India.' I have not heard a question on the same
lines about the loss of Gujrath because Mumbai went to Maharashtra.

War is bad. Civil war is worse. My generation has seen three wars. So I
know. I am startled by the post-71 generation's fatal attraction towards
war. (And Kargil was not a war. It was a battle.)

I think two issues are getting confused in this debate. There is no doubt
that Mumbai is deteriorating. Everyone will agree with the symptom. But
vested interests put the cause as 'immigrants'.

And once the debate started on 'immigrants' everyone forgets the main issue.
As if that is the only solution. The solution lies in having a vision, plan,
management and administration. This divide amongst our own people is not
going to better Mumbai.

Now I realise why they still show that visual on Doordarshan. Take one
stick, break it. Take another stick, break it. Take a bunch of sticks, that
can't be broken.

Thanks and Regards,

Vilas D. Virdhe
