To my experience, not everything sells in India by money, especially not
justice.  I too had filed a case with a billionaire against his public
wrong doing, and let me say he spent handsome amount for lawyers, and
government officers, but ultimately after fighting it out for almost
three years, I won the case.  I am very much content with the Justice
system in India.  Perhaphs there may be some instances that justice
sells too, but it may be very few instances.

Right now I have taken up the issue to save the Indian Fishermen from
the torture and killing by Pakistani Marine Security.  I have already
approached the CM-Gujarat and requested to take up the matter with
Centre, and do needful for release of 300 Indian fishermen languishing
in Pakistani Jail.

Thanks for posting this. It happened during the weekend hence I could
not respond soon enough. I am struck dumb that he was not able to buy
the justice system.

I have always believed that getting justice in India was a matter of who
has more money.

With regard to this judgement, what recourses does Salman have? Can he
take it all the way to the Supreme Court and somehow manage to slime
out?

If he actually spends even a single month in jail as a result of this
sentence, it will be a headline grabbing display of justice - that you
have to pay the price no matter who you are.

With respect to the hit and run 'trial' in Mumbai, I have heard from not
unreliable sources that he has paid off Mt Bhujbal - something like 45
lakhs - as well as around 20 lakhs to the relatives of the deceased. It
will beinteresting to see what happens in that case too - especially if
his people are not in power when the case comes in for a hearing.
