Re: [nukkad] Virus protection--suggestions for

Recco # 0: Don't use Internet Explorer. Not now, not in the future.

Recco # 1: Stop that click-itch. You won't die if you don't click that link or
open that attachment.

Recco # 2: Type. It keeps your fingers healthy. Always go to your web-email /
bank by typing in the websites.

Recco # 3: Disable all password managers. Remember them. You can avoid
Alzheimer's. Use mnemonics like the first or last letters of your favorite
poems, songs or books with special characters to create your passwords.

Recco # 4: Have a healthy dose of paranoia to avoid becoming a victim. Keep
yourself updated with the latest tricks of fraudsters like spam, phishing,
social-networking worms, trojans and viruses. Don't go to websites whose
antecedents you are not sure of. No one in Nigeria is actually going to give
you a million dollars if you email back to them or log in to verify your
identity from their links/emails.

Recco # 5: Have a good anti-virus scheduled for regular updates and scans set
up on your computer. Use it in conjunction with an anti-spyware product. Set up
your Firefox/Opera browser to delete cookies on exit.

AVG Free is one of the best AV out there which doesn't slow down your computer
like the others.
AVG Spyware is also very good, but it only has a free trial - so after that
time the auto-updates need to be done manually.
I don't use a Firewall, because I find it obtrusive - so can't recommend any.
