I think we changed to the current currency in 1957. At that time an anna [6
naye paise] fetched 4 gol gappa / 2 bananas / a cup of tea / one paan.

Rupayaa, anna, pie was there for a very long time, certainly throughout
British rule, but, most likely, even before that. In early days, there was
also a dhelaa =half paisa and a damadee = half pie.But, these were not
really standard and varied from state to state, currency being a state
subject in princely states, though freely interchangeable.
