Re: [nukkad] from annas and pies to paisa and rupee

Thank you all for a very interesting discussion. I still have some pies, a
few 1 and 2 paisa coins, and a 1-anna coin too. I purchased them from a
road-side stall near Fort in Mumbai. They cost me Rs. 130 for a past
monetary value of less than 125 paise, a present monetary value of Rs. 0.00,
and a metal value of nearly Rs. 2/= The collection includes one Nehru-50
paisa coin.

When I was a child, my father would often send me to the local mandi to buy
vegetables. Tomatoes would be 60 paisa a kilo, and so we would end up with
payment of 9 paisa for 150 gm and so on. It would be an interesting trip,
not counting the smells and sights. The final bill would be around Rs. 1.48or
1.26 or whatever. I remember that my cloth bag would be almost full,
weighing over 1.5 to 2.0 kg -- and all this for about the price of a child's
minimum bus fare!
