[nukkad] Kurrency Konversations

The One: What are they talking about now on the Forum?
The Other: About coins and how much more these bought in the
days of yore.

The One: I have seen the money they use, seems shabby in design,
sloppy in construct, and slacking in its promise to procure.
The Other: [amused] That is a finely turned sentence. Indeed it
all is. It would seem the people who run their Treasury, put out the
least workable version of a coin or note which will pass muster. There
is no attempt to create art, which a coin is, apart from inherent value.

The One: The more oppressed the people, the more mundane the
coinage?
The Other: Yes. For instance, the shining rupee of old, with a heart of
silver, and an intricately carved face at obverse, and a legend in the
reverse, has now become a rag of waste paper, truncated, smudged
in design, with some vague litany of a promise no one bothers to read.

The One: And smaller, as though what can be bought, has also shrunk
with the years with the currency, so people end up needy, even when
spending the same amount.
The Other: Yes. In a sense, the face of the rupee, is the face of the those
who rule.

The One: I notice that we never carry any money.
The Other: [says nothing]

The One: Forbidden topic?
The Other: [says nothing]

The One: [annoyed] You have made a virtue out of saying little
The Other: Much talking does not always mean much saying.

The One: [smiling] Old Chinese saying?
The Other: Old Chinese saying.

The One: How do we call in a fade today?
The Other: Just call in the value of the coinage.
