Re: [nukkad] cricket

There will be a lot of franchising. Although team owners like Mallya, Ambani
and Godrej will not be allowed to add their brand names to the teams, there
will soon be different franchises coming up. There will be clothing
sponsorship, kit sponsorship etc, that will come through. Things to wait for
are will Sachin bat with MRF? there are other legal wrangles that are
associated and if i remember right, most Indian players have not as yet
signed their contracts. Don't be surprised if Kingfisher bats or Godrej
sports shirts and shoes make an entry! Much like Four Square bats and
Gloves!
Advertising revenue will also come up with franchisees getting a piece of
the action.
There is going to be some big time conflict of interests coming up. Will
Pepsi allow their "stable" of models to endorse Kingfisher?
SET max have paid huge amounts of money for transmission rights. To break
even in the first year advertising spots will have to be charged at 10,000/-
a second to break even. The SET Max people however claim that NO ONE will
break even in the first year.
While the players Indian and Foreign have contracts with BCCI motivation is
going to be difficult to find to perform. They may be Professionals in the
game but we shall wait and see.
Rewind to the 70's with Packer and his pyjama cricket, that really
popularised OD cricket. maybe this will do the same for Twenty20.
Moral police are careful not to piss around and spoil something as popular
as cricket. They can only end up on the losing side.
