No only the metrication of coinage, weight and measurements were also brought under metric system. Weights: 8 Ratti = 1 Masa; 12 Masa = 1 Tola; 5 Tola = 1 Chhatank; 16 Chhatank = 1 Ser; 40 Ser = 1 Man; and 27.5 Man = 1 Ton. This system was replaced by: 10 milligrams = 1 centigram; 10 centigrams = 1 decigram; 10 decigrams = 1 gram; 10 grams = decagram; 10 decagrams = hectogram; 10 hectograms = 1 kilogram; 100 kilograms = 1 Quintal; 10 Quintals = 1 Ton ( Metric). Similarly for capacity, millilitre < centilitre < decilitre < litre < decalitre < hectolitres < kilolitre. For measurements: 12 inches = 1 foot; 3 feet = 1 gaj ( yard ); 220 gaj ( yards) = 1 furlong; 8 furlong = 1 meel ( mile), was substituted by millimetre < centimetre < desimetre < metre < decametre < hectometre < kilometre and so is in the cases of area and volume. rnt On Mon, Feb 18, 2008 at 4:24 AM, Ravi Menon wrote: > Here is an interesting piece > Metrication in India by Sujay Rao Mandavilli Currency metrication - The > first step: The first step undertaken was to reform the country's weird > currency system.
