Attitude is the key to facing problems
There is this famous prayer that children sing in school, 'It is
better to light just one little candle than to stumble in the dark/ Better
far that you light just one little candle, all you need is a tiny spark'.
It's another thing that the meaning of the prayer is often forgotten.
Though it is human nature to crib about problems, spiritual thinkers have
emphasised that one should strive to work out possible solutions rather than
merely deliberate on how difficult a problem is. There are several ways of
dealing with a problem, but they come to light when one makes an effort to
find them.
Philosophers have said that the intensity of a problem depends largely on
the attitude with which one faces it. A person with a positive approach will
see light even in complete darkness. ``We should not allow problems to take
root and create more problems,'life is an endless procession of
one crisis after another, and it requires strength of character to deal with
the crises with patience and nonchalance. A peaceful state of mind also
enables one to take the right decision at the right time.
It is said that life is all about options, which, if not visible, should be
created. There is no dead end to any situation, however difficult. Most
problems, if analysed, often turn out to be creations of the mind. Once this
is acknowledged, a person can consciously make the effort to refrain from
negative thoughts.
It also helps to use the problem to realise one's inherent strength. Adverse
situations help one to realise this strength, observe spiritual thinkers. As
Swami Vivekananda said, ``Even the poison of a snake is powerless if you can
firmly deny it.''
These attitudes are the little candles which can be lit to dispel the
darkness of doubt and difficult times. One has the option to smile at a
problem or to frown at it. Every individual does know which the better
option is.
