Re: [nukkad] proud to be Indian?

Tip of the day: Remember, this "nukkad" is international.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Venu,

Don't take it personal, but I would like your sincere response to this.

I don't think there are enough reasons to be proud of India. I would say
there are definitely more reasons to be ashamed, although I do not care.
Patriotism/love pride in country are things used by some cunning
(intelligent) people to take advantage of the rest.

I know India as a place where everybody is more concerned/worried about
others gains than his/her own. I still remember the shock I had when I first
stepped in a society other than Indian. I could not believe it.

It is because of people who refuse to accept the reality and continue to
take pride in India that India continues to remain as it is and not
change.

Coming to your problem of missing India. I don't think that is in anyway
related to your pride in India. It is your limitation. Once you go back to
India and start missing US, would that mean you have now started being proud
of US.

Accept reality, only then can you work on changing it. That's the way to
take pride in. You and I were born Indians. We do not have to be proud or
ashamed of that. It is neither your sucess nor your failure, it is more a
responsibility.

rgds,
Sharad.

First of all... I don't think I need to have a "reason" to be proud of my
country.

I like the way India is.. I like the way Indians are.. I like the social
life of India and I am missing India very much here in the United States.

I am an Indian and I can proudly say that. Since you don't want to go into
history, I cannot possibly list out the top ten reasons why one should love
his country.

It is time that shapes up a country. It is the history and the people. If
you don't want to mention people or history here, you cannot define a
country... let alone finding out the reason for being proud of it.

Finally, there are umpteen number of reasons.

But I would like to hear why you've questioned the greatness of India!

Curious...

Sincerely,
Venu

Happy New Millennium!
