I also feel that we can be proud of our country without behaving like the
multitude in Hitlar's Germany.

anybody read "1984" by jorge orwell. "I like big brother" is no way a
"proof" of being proud of ones country.

people are having their preferences, compulsions, likes, dislikes, etc. and
a country has to ensure everyone's freedom to do what he/ she
individually feels necessary.

It would have served no purpose if entire country would have come to a
halt for 8 days and all people were made to sit in front of radio-tv-net to
listen about hijacking.

and goverment did wisely ensure the security of its hijacked citizens. the
released terrorists can be rounded up again and can be brought to book.

Sharad ,
Talking about Specifics , There were Football
and hockey games being shown live and people were enjoying it , when
some paranoids were spraying bullets at kids in schools and
kindergartens. Did you notice that ????( This is about U.S )

Also I don't intend to sound like a Pro-Press guy , but , what do you
expect them to print when there were no updates on the talks with
Hijackers . DO you expect them to print the same story everyday , when
they knew nothing new about it . Tell me how much were you concerned
about it .

I bet most of us from the IT-industry must be concerned
about it and were checking updates on the news sites from time to time,
that proves it.

You seem to be amazed by the glittering materialistic life in the west ,
But is it the only thing you need in life ???

Analyse ....

No Hard feelings

Venu,

Don't take it personal, but I would like your sincere response to this.

I don't think there are enough reasons to be proud of India. I would say
there are definitely more reasons to be ashamed, although I do not care.
Patriotism/love pride in country are things used by some cunning
(intelligent) people to take advantage of the rest.

I know India as a place where everybody is more concerned/worried
about
others gains than his/her own. I still remember the shock I had when I
first
stepped in a society other than Indian. I could not believe it.

It is because of people who refuse to accept the reality and continue to
take pride in India that India continues to remain as it is and not
change.

Coming to your problem of missing India. I don't think that is in anyway
related to your pride in India. It is your limitation. Once you go back to
India and start missing US, would that mean you have now started being
proud
of US.

Accept reality, only then can you work on changing it. That's the way to
take pride in. You and I were born Indians. We do not have to be proud
or
ashamed of that. It is neither your sucess nor your failure, it is more a
responsibility.

rgds,
Sharad.

First of all... I don't think I need to have a "reason" to be proud of my
country.

I like the way India is.. I like the way Indians are.. I like the social
life of India and I am missing India very much here in the United States.

I am an Indian and I can proudly say that. Since you don't want to go into
history, I cannot possibly list out the top ten reasons why one should
love
his country.

It is time that shapes up a country. It is the history and the people. If
you don't want to mention people or history here, you cannot define a
country... let alone finding out the reason for being proud of it.

Finally, there are umpteen number of reasons.

But I would like to hear why you've questioned the greatness of India!

Curious...

Sincerely,
Venu

Happy New Millennium!
