Dear Anil,
I don't know whether you accept mythological anecdotes as a reference
of society and culture of past times or not, so please clarify.

In ramayana, so much has been written about atricities Rakshas have
been commiting on peace-loving self-contained sadhu. Rakshas were
invading sadhu's ashrams, disrupting their religious ceremonies by
destroying things and by throwing killed animals and blood in the yagna,
and were even killing and eating sadhus.

not the religious aspect of it, but it is only to say that the mighty are
having superior resources which they unabashedly use to undermine
the freedom and liberty of the multitude.

yada yada hi dharmasya glanirbhavati bharat
abhyuthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srajamyaham
paritranay ch sadhunam vinashay ch dushkratam
dharm sansthapnarthay sambhawami yuge yuge.

(apologies for spelling and mix-ups)

Ram and Gandhi are required to channelise the energies of such a
multitude and overcome the forces of such tyranny.

if you find those ramayana detail not worthy of consideration, cou could
substitute Nazi for rakshas and jews for sadhus. concept will remain
same.

but that does not undermine the pride these multlitude are having in their
society, their culture, their nation.

jaichands and meerjafars do not represent multitude of indians, neither
then, nor now.

another ironical anecdote, one vibhishan does not imply that rakshas
were not proud of Lanka and king Ravana.

Hi All,

Specifically I cannot get over the fact that a huge nation such as India
could be ruled for over 200 + years by an external power. This could
have only been possible with the covert and overt support by the
citizens of the country .

India , in my view , includes all those army men and policemen who fired
at those people in Jallian Wala Baug .All those who connived with the
British for a share of power and all those who hacked their neighbours
in 1947 ,in 1984 (sikhs ) , in 1992, those who set fire to a Christian
missionary and his 2 children (orissa) those who wipe out communities
in Bihar (ranvir sena ) those who are not ashamed to 'demand'
reservation not only for education but also for promotions .

There are of course many men and women who died under the British
baton and many more who die even today at our borders .But it is not
surprising that a son stands up for his mother or lays down his life in her
defence and well being , in fact it is expected of him to do so .
But which son will do to his mother what Indians do their motherland
Please also consider the millions who spit pan outside their cars and on
their staircases ).

Anil
