Hi,

I am sure there are some really good reasons for the names for city's 
suburbs. Any one know what they are or how to find out?

For eg. why is Andheri called that? Was is really dark there? Did 
Goregaon have a large population of Europeans? And what does Malad
mean anyway? What devious mind came up with Chinchpokli?

If you have any info on this aspect of Mumbai's history, please share it. 
If you have relatives who have been in the city for a few decades, ask 
them. If you know of a book that has these details, send us the name.

It would be great fun to try to piece together these stories and to
find out more about the places we live in.
