The reason Ahmedabad is to be renamed to Karnavati is because of its 
predominantly hindu majority not because Ahmed Shah wasnt a ruler loved by 
the people. In fact if my memory serves he was an excellent king and did a 
lot for the city. The problem shouldnt be people who originated here or 
people who came here later for India is a potpourri of all these things.  As 
for things being renamed after Shivaji, one or two things and one might not 
say anything but the rising trend is to rename everything semi-important in 
the city after him. Like it or not the Moghuls and British are a part of 
Indian history and preservation of the same means keeping some things the 
way they are
