[nukkad] The Dec '00 meeting

Hi,

I am sorry it has taken me so long to post a follow-up on the 
'nukkad' meeting we had on Dec 23rd 2000. Anyway, here is what
happened:


Due to a set of circumstances beyond my control (holiday weekend and
proximity of Engineering exams to name a couple) coupled with my own goof-ups
the meeting became a prime example of 'how not to organize a face-to-face
meeting of an online group'.

I was out of town till the very morning of the meeting and had very
limited 'net access for about 10 days prior to the meeting. Anyway, 
Saturday evening rolled in and I made my way to Shiv Sagar, Juhu.

After waiting for over an hour (and enduring the suspicious stares of the
staff), I started to sense that something wasn't right. Where were my 
fellow list members? Did I goof up the date? Or the place?
Turns out, it was a bit of the latter. I had no idea that there were
2 hotels by the same name, both considered to be in the Juhu area. I
can only guess that some folks went to the other one, waited a bit,
cursed me and went back. 

My anxiety (and the stares) were alleviated by the arrival of Rajababu.
At last! Someone made it!! Now I could put a face to at least one 
familiar name. We talked a bit and were soon joined by Mr. Vilas Virdhe.
My hopes rose and I started thinking that people were merely delayed.
Soon, they will all show up. Alas! The only other person to show up
was Ninad (who used to co-manage the mumbai-central.com site and 'nukkad'
till a few months back).

In any case, we made the most of the limited gathering and talked nearly
non-stop for the next 3 hours. In retrospect, I am not sure I could
have handled many more subscribers showing up. (-8

We talked of a lot many things but mainly about 'nukkad'. It was
extremely gratifying to see the level of interest both Rajababu
and Mr. Virdhe, had in the list and its continued well-being. The
discussions covered a lot of points and was very educational (for me).
I have had numerous personal email discussions with some of you 
over the years but it felt great to have a face-to-face chat about
'nukkad'. 

A whole range of ideas were discussed.  Rajababu has summarized our 
discussion in his overview (to be sent soon after this one) so I shall 
not go into the details.

I will ask that if you have any idea or suggestion about the list
(or the mumbai-central.com website), please write to me. I may not 
always be able to respond promptly but I will definitely read it and 
will get back to you.

I promise to better organize the next meeting whenever we get around
to it. 

Meanwhile, see you on 'nukkad'!
