Incredibly bad form to reply tomy own e-mail. 
However, Dr. Gupta had raised some questions 
about how the blank e-mail managed
to send itself to him.

The key here is 'send itself'. Many of these 
viruses actually DO send themselves. 
Especially if people are using Outlook or 
Outlook Express, all the virus has to do
is to look at the attached address book
and create e-mails (most of them put something
naughty in the Subject line. e.g., "Anna 
Kournikova" or "I Love You" which is whence they
get their names), attach themselves to those
e-mails and then send themselves.

The viruses manage to do do this magic because
of something known as VBS or VB Script. This 
is a scripting language that Microsoft has
included as part of the OS with Windoze 98 etc.
and which helps to automate a lot of things.
Unfortunately this very automation is being
abused by the virus writers.

So - in conclusion - all I am saying is that 
this particular "slow dance" e-mail with the 
virus attached MAY NOT have been sent by the 
people wilfully. It is quite possible that they
received the virus and unwittingly sent it to
the good Doctor. 

Hope this confuses less and enlightens more in 
the ways of Microsoft.
