As I mentioned in my previous mails, yesterday Norton2000 gave alarmed
for Badtrans@mm.enc while downloading the mails, then it quarantined the
entire inbox, thus making me miss all my previous mails.

Today again while downloading the mails, I got alarm for having detected
same virus. then it went ahead to quarantine the then inbox and resumed
downloading the mails. I immediately discontinued downloading. I studied
the mails. total 7 were downloaded. 4 were from a reliable source who
regularly sends mails, and in any case those were moved to a subfolder
and were legible.

There were three new mails in the main inbox which got emptied yesterday
by that virus. Two were some dvd ad.

Third one was probably from the same person that you are mentioning
Nirmal Chauduri tt654v@yahoo.com. It
was a direct reply to my query on w98-wme. But as the message body file
was quarantined only headers were visible.

Then I logged into my maildrop box at dishnet where all my mails come
and from where I download. Indeed that mail was 7th mail in receipt
date-time order. I guess that is the order in which ns downloads mails.
I opened it there. It was blank and it ahs an attachment which I did not
open.

In my inbox header. it was shown as 40KB as you mentioned.

I deleted this mail. and downloaded again. everything went fine and all
messages came to my ns.

This person, either knowingly or unknowingly is spreading virus and
causing damages. Please bar him id for the time being so that he does
not receive out mails and does not reply direct.

After loosing my mails yesterday, I surfed the net for two hours to read
about this virus, its detection and elimination and how to get my inbox
back. I could not find any method which eliminates this virus. It is
mentioned that we have to amnually eliminate it. I guess my old mails
are all lost, though the file is in quarantine. Any help is welcome.

MCG:
Would yo like to share with us how you identified that person's mail as
the one having virus? Is it same method as I wrote above or some other
one.

'Shal:
I agree with Guptaji's views. Having suffered on account of this
mischief, I wonder how many nukkadites who got replies from this person
and who do not have antivirus on their boxes have got affected, and in
turn are spreading it.

Could that be a reason to change the setting from "reply to sendor" to
"reply to list" so that the mails go thru your server and automatically
scanned.

Regards.
